Scotland's finest casinos,
and where to stay.

An honest guide to Scotland's casinos and the best hotels a short walk away — the riverside rooms of Glasgow, an art-deco landmark in Edinburgh and a city-centre favourite in Aberdeen. We visit, we play and we rank them.

At the door

Scotland's casinos have a real sense of place. Glasgow keeps two big riverside rooms on the Clyde; Edinburgh plays a landmark art-deco building against a smart leisure-complex floor; Aberdeen holds a dependable city-centre room in the granite heart of the North East. The stay sits a short walk away rather than upstairs, which suits cities made for an evening out.

This guide reviews five Scottish casinos and, for each, the best places to stay within easy reach — then ranks them out of ten. We weigh the same four things every time: the casino floor, where to stay, the dining and extras, and the location and value. The scores are our own, and we take no payment for a place in the ranking.

None of these venues has rooms of its own, so for every one we point you to the strongest hotel on the doorstep. Each is a real, licensed casino, and each runs a strict 21+ door policy. Figures are approximate and change, so confirm the details before you travel.

Borealandbaize

Four things make a great night out.

We stay, we play and we score against the same four measures every time. Read the full method on our Borealandbaize page.

01

The casino floor

How good the gaming is — the range of table games, the poker and electronic gaming, the private and high-limit rooms — and how the room feels once you are inside.

02

Where to stay

The best hotel on the doorstep, chosen from what sits within a short walk, and how easy the trip from the tables back to a good night's sleep really is.

03

Dining & extras

The restaurants, bars, live sport and shows and other reasons to make a night of it, both inside the venue and in the streets around it.

04

Location & value

Where it sits in the city, how easy it is to reach, what else is nearby, and whether the whole evening is worth the money.

Good to know

Scottish casino questions.

Do any Scottish casinos have rooms upstairs?

Not in this guide — Scotland's casinos are city and riverside rooms rather than casino-hotels, so none has its own bedrooms. For every venue we recommend the best hotel a short walk away instead.

Which is the best casino in Glasgow?

Glasgow's two big riverside rooms — Alea at Springfield Quay and the Grosvenor Riverboat — are the largest in Scotland, both on the Clyde. We rank and compare them here, with the closest hotels for each.

How old do I have to be to get in?

Every venue in this guide operates a strict 21+ door policy. Bring valid photo ID, which is checked at the entrance, and expect to be refused entry without it.

Are these online casinos?

No. This is a guide to real, land-based casinos across Scotland you can visit in person, and the hotels beside them. It is not an online casino, and no real-money play takes place on this site.

How do your ratings work?

Each venue is scored out of ten against four measures — the casino floor, where to stay, dining and extras, and location and value. The scores are our editorial opinion, and we take no payment for a place in the ranking.
